Machete is seeking a capable and people focused HR Business Partner to work closely with managers across the business while owning key HR processes end to end. Reporting to the Head of HR, this role blends strategic partnering, employee relations, and performance support with hands on responsibility for recruitment, HR governance, and visa/work permit applications.

Job Description:
Business Partnering
- Act as the primary HR point of contact for managers, providing coaching and practical guidance on day-to-day people matters.
- Develop strong relationships with stakeholders, understanding team needs and delivering tailored support.
- Partner with the Head of HR on workforce planning, organisational development, and people initiatives.
- Identify HR trends and recommend improvements to support team effectiveness and engagement.
Recruitment and Onboarding
- Manage the full recruitment lifecycle for all roles across multiple departments and locations.
- Lead job scoping, job description creation, sourcing strategy, advertising, and interview coordination.
- Directly source candidates through LinkedIn, job boards, networking, and proactive outreach.
- Conduct initial interviews and support managers through the selection process.
- Oversee relationships with external recruitment agencies when required.
- Ensure onboarding programmes are well structured and support new joiners to integrate effectively.
Employee Relations
- Manage day-to-day employee relations matters including performance concerns, attendance issues, conduct cases, and informal conflict resolution.
- Provide coaching to managers to help them address issues early and confidently.
- Ensure consistent, fair, and legally compliant handling of all employee relations matters.
- Escalate complex or sensitive issues to the Head of HR when appropriate.
Performance and Development
- Coordinate probation reviews, performance cycles, and ongoing feedback processes.
- Coach managers on delivering effective feedback, managing underperformance, and setting clear expectations.
- Support employees and managers with development planning and career growth. Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and development.
HR Governance, Policies and Documentation
- Ensure HR processes, documentation, and decisions meet Maltese employment legislation and DIER requirements.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, contracts, and HR files.
- Update HR policies, procedures, and the employee handbook as required.
- Lead and support HR governance reviews and internal audits, ensuring the business is prepared for inspections or regulatory enquiries.
Visas, Work Permits and Relocations
- Manage visa and work permit processes for international employees, including applications, renewals, and monitoring.
- Liaise with government entities, external agencies, and employees throughout the process.
- Support relocation administration and ensure a smooth transition for international hires.
Employee Experience and Culture
- Contribute to wellbeing, engagement, and communication initiatives across the business.
- Identify opportunities to improve the employee experience throughout the lifecycle.
- Support cultural initiatives that reinforce Machete's values and collaborative environment.
Requirements
- 3 to 5 years' generalist HR experience with exposure to both strategic partnering and operational delivery.
- Experience managing full-cycle recruitment across multiple roles and departments.
- Strong understanding of Maltese employment law, DIER requirements, and HR governance.
- Experience managing visas, work permits, and relocation processes.
- Confidence in handling employee relations with sound judgement and professionalism.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coach managers effectively.
- Highly organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities independently.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
- CIPD qualification or similar is beneficial but not essential
- Role to be based in Malta
