Purpose of Position:
To lead and manage the Met Office team and proficiently ensure meteorological services are delivered to the highest of standards and in accordance to domestic/international regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of forecasters, observers, and technical staff
- Oversee the production and dissemination of weather forecasts, warnings, and advisories
- Ensure compliance with national and international meteorological standards
- Coordinate with government agencies, emergency services, and aviation/marine authorities
- Manage office resources, budgets, and operational planning
- Implement quality control procedures and continuous improvement initiatives
- Supervise data collection, analysis, and archiving of meteorological observations
- Represent the office in inter-agency meetings, conferences, and public briefings
- Support research and development of forecasting tools and methodologies
- Ensure staff training and professional development
Requirements
The ideal candidate should:
- Hold a university degree, preferably in Geophysical Sciences or a related field
- Possess a minimum of two years of supervisory or managerial experience
- Demonstrate a proven ability to foster a supportive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment
- Excellent communication, training, and leadership abilities
- Analytical thinking and attention to detail
